Why a Doula?

The word “doula” comes from an ancient Greek word meaning “woman caregiver.” It is used to refer to a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and after childbirth.

A doula can help you have a shorter, easier , and healthier birth. Studies have shown that having a doula may decrease

By her presence, manner, and comforting touch the doula:

  • Creates calmness and the essence of relaxation.

A doula is not a doctor, a nurse, or a midwife, she is not trained to make any medical decisions, and does not do vaginal checks.
